========================================================================= ==> Time for this proposal is to be transferred from ACOUSTEN.TITAN A ==> This proposal requests an upgrade from priority 3 for ACOUSTEN.TITAN A ========================================================================= We propose to record the short-wavelength spectrum of Titan between 2 and 9 micron with CAM-CVF and between 2 and 12 micron with PHOT-S. Some of these regions of very low flux (in particular the 4-5 mu region) cannot be observed with SWS with sufficient S/N. These data will provide information about the lower troposphere and the surface of Titan, in particular in the windows around 2.5-3.2mu and 4-5mu, very difficult to access from the ground. The 5-7mu region will provide data on a completely unexplored region of the spectrum, where both the reflected sunlight and the thermal emission contribute to the spectrum. PHT-S and CAM data are highly complementary, as the PHT-S data extend up to 12 mu, whereas the CAM data cover the 5-6 mu region. In addition, the CAM data will allow for a better correction of Saturn's straylight contamination. Observations will be performed at Titan's maximum eastern elongation, where more flux is expected than elsewhere on the orbit. The PHT-S observation of Titan was already planned in the Central Program proposal of Coustenis et al (ACOUSTEN.TITAN A), with Priority 3. We propose to transfer the time allocated to ACOUSTEN.TITAN A (7200 s) and to this proposal with Priority 1.
